Chicken Jalfrezi is a great beginner curry! It offers a nice spicy kick with delicious veggies cooked into the sauce. The ingredient that truly sets Chicken Jalfrezi apart though is Green Pepper or Capsicum.

List of ingredients for this recipe:

  • 1 lb boneless chicken
  • ½ onion, diced, approx half cup
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • ½ tsp garlic paste
  • 2 tomatoes (diced)
  • ¾-1 tsp red chili powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 diced green pepper
  • 3-4 sliced green chilies sliced lengthwise (halved)
  • ½-3/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper

Preparation Steps

01In a wok or saucepan with a cover, heat 3-4 tablespoons of oil.

02On medium heat, add the onions and cook until they are transparent.

03Combine the chicken, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Cook, mix well, stirring constantly until all of the pieces have changed color.

04Cook, covered, until the chicken is cooked, adding the tomatoes, salt, and chili powder as needed. This takes me around 20 minutes from frozen chicken; fresh chicken is generally faster.

05Add the soy sauce and green peppers, toss well, and simmer, partially covered, for 5-7 minutes, or until the green peppers are soft crisp.

06Last but not least, add your black pepper and diced chilies, and taste for spice.
