A traditional Pakistani/Indian sweet dish enjoyed on special occasions.

Meethay Chawal or Mutanjan Recipe

Ingredients for Meethay Chawal or Mutanjan:

  • 3 cups of rice
  • 3 liters of water
  • 6-7 pieces of green cardamom
  • 5-6 pieces of cloves
  • 3 cups of sugar
  • Almonds, red and yellow tutti-frutti (optional)

 Method for Preparation of Meethay Chawal or Mutanjan:

01Soak the rice in water, and boil the other 3 liters of water

02Once the water is boiled, add the previously soaked rice in it.

03Cover the pot with a lid and leave it to cook for a few minutes.

04Filter out the rice from the water.

05In a separate pot, add 1 cup of oil and add 6-7 pieces of green cardamom and cloves. Heat up the oil for a few minutes.

06Once the oil is heated up, add the rice. Add 1.5 cups of sugar to the base of the pot and 1.5 cups after adding the rice. Add the almonds and tutti-frutti.

07To give the sweet rice a colorful look add colored rice of your choice. 1 cup each. Preferably the colors are yellow/orange, red and green.

Your delicious sweet rice is ready. Serve with khoya and enjoy!
