Tandoori Chicken Recipe



Tandoori chicken is a subcontinental dish prepared by roasting chicken marinated in yogurt and spices in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven.

Tandoor (clay oven) is used for making Tandoori Chicken, a very common BBQ dish in most Pakistani restaurants across the world. The dish at home can be cooked in the oven or BBQ grill at home. The dish can be is normally eaten with naan and mint chutney. 

Ingredients for Tandoori Chicken Recipe:

  • 2 kg chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder or as per taste
  • 2-3 tbsp tandoori spice/masala
  • 5 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

Method for Preparation of Tandoori Chicken Recipe:

01Put deep cuts into the drumsticks for ease in the marination.

02Marinate the chicken in yogurt, spices and ginger-garlic paste and leave it for 2-3 hours.

03Cover a baking tray with aluminium foil, and make a few cuts on the foil sheet so that the excess fat from the chicken is drained out.

04Put the marinated chicken on the tray and bake it in an oven/tandoor on medium for 15-20 minutes or until half-done.

05Brush the drumsticks with oil and flip them over. Bake them for another 15 minutes.

06Then repeat the same process for the other undone side of the drumsticks and bake for another 15 minutes.

07Serve hot with ketchup and/or green chutney.
