Keema Karela being widely popular in all of the sub-continent

Ingredients for Keema Kerala Recipe (Bitter Melon with mince):

  • 1kg mince (lamb or beef)

  • 1 kg bitter melon (karelay)

  • 2 tbsp salt

  • 1 cup oil

  • A pinch of black cumin

  • 1 cup water

  • 3 whole onions

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 pieces of cardamom sticks

  • 2 pieces of black cardamom

  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp dry coriander

  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds

  • 5 green cardamom

  • 3 tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp white vinegar

  • 3 green chillies

  • sliced ginger, for garnish

 Method for Preparation of Keema Karela Recipe (Bitter Melon with mince):

01Mix bitter melon and 1 tbsp salt together and leave for 15 minutes.

02Afterward, wash the bitter melon, rinse. Squeeze out all of the water from them.

03In a wok with a cup of oil, fry the bitter melon until brown.

04Add some black cumin (a pinch) and give it a stir.

05In a pot with the mince in it, add a cup of water along with onions, 1 tbsp salt, ginger-garlic paste, cardamom sticks and black cardamom. Mix well.

06over the pot with a lid and leave it on medium flame for about 40 minutes.

07After the 40 minutes add some spices (red chilli, dry coriander, cumin seeds, green cardamom) and some tomatoes and white vinegar. Mix well.

09Add green chillies and give it a stir.

10Now, add the fried bitter melon and leave it to cook for 5 minutes.

11Garnish with sliced ginger and serve.
